Day 259: Inspiration
My dear friend Chris Saunders took me to an incredible art exhibit yesterday in Wynwood called The Margulies Collection. It is in an enormous warehouse, and it includes all forms of visual arts, including painting, sculpture, performance art and animation. If you’re anywhere near Miami, I highly recommend paying it a visit. It is absolutely worth the trip.
I had a pretty strange week, and Chris really got me out of my funk. We talked a lot, and I realized how much I missed him. I’m going to try to make an effort to see more of him and his beautiful wife Amber. Great people.
Along with pulling me out of my funk, my trip to The Margulies Collection really got me thinking about my own artistic ventures. I wrote it in my list and I haven’t fulfilled the one goal that I was most positive I could achieve at the beginning of this journey — arranging one song a month. It’s been so long since I’ve been inspired to write music that I feel foreign to the process.
But after seeing such moving artwork and my work with No Southern Accent, I feel more inspired than ever to begin the writing process again. I may not be able to write 12 new arrangements by May 22, but even if I get one down, I’ll be happy.
